'Bringing the yachting community together on one platform...'
This week we speak to Mocean about their new platform and their views and thoughts on the sustainability of the industry...
We completely agree with your opinion of how yachting as an industry ‘takes a lot’ from the ocean, and doesn’t tend to ‘give back’, how are you overcoming this as a business within the yachting space?
We are using our platform to raise awareness around environmental issues, and one way of doing this is by partnering with purpose-driven organisations focused on ocean restoration and preservation. Our goal is to help make people aware of the impact their choices have on the environment, and introduce them to viable alternatives that are more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Your sense of community within the yachting industry echoes our Seastainable community ethos, what would you say are the main benefits that being part of a community within Mocean has?
Mocean hopes to bring the entire yachting community together on one platform, and in doing so, we believe that real change can happen. There are so many amazing causes and organizations out there that are trying to make a difference. Because we are an industry specific platform, one of the benefits is that organizations can cut through the noise, connect with like-minded people, and use the power of community to make a real difference.
Your platform is a way of members within the yachting community to discover opportunities, share experiences and support one another, could you explain a little about how your platform is doing this?
We designed Mocean to help the yachting community connect with one another on both a personal and professional level, and our features encourage members to share things that will benefit the community as a whole. For example, if you are looking for your next position, our jobs board simplifies the way members can post or apply for jobs. If you’d like to join a group, support or raise funds for a cause, or find events that interest you, we have you covered. If you want to connect and socialise with other crew around you, you can do that too. Mocean offers something for everyone, wherever they are in their yachting journey.
With your commitment to the environment and your current involvement in the ‘1% for the planet’ initiative, what are your thoughts on the future of the industry, with regards to sustainability?
This is a very exciting time for the yachting industry, because people are starting to shift towards more sustainable products and services, largely due to organisations like Seastainable Yachting who are bringing awareness to these issues. It appears that more people are taking a proactive approach to sustainability, and understand that change needs to happen if we want to preserve our oceans for generations to come. This sustainability movement is gaining momentum, and if we can get the entire industry on board, we can make a massive difference.
